We are always looking for new members for our Fire Department and FAST Squad. There is no prior experience necessary to join.

Joining the Fire Department

The Norwich Fire Department responds to all types of emergencies, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in all types of weather. Some of the emergencies we respond to are: structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, wildland fires, carbon monoxide exposures, hazard materials releases, search/rescue/removals and water/ice/weather related emergencies.

If you join the Fire Department with no prior experience, you will be expected to complete the Vermont Fire Academy’s Firefighter 1 certification program within 18 months. This 120 hour, nationally accredited program is taught regionally every fall and spring. In addition to your VFA training, you will be expected to attend our three monthly training nights.

  • Fire Department Trainings – Held on the 2nd and 3rd Monday of every month from 18:30-21:00.
  • Firefighter Basic Trainings – An additional training night is held for new firefighters, or veteran members who want to focus on a specific skill, on the 4th Monday of every month from 18:30-20:00.

Joining the FAST Squad

Our FAST Squad responds to medical emergencies within the Town of Norwich. If you join the FAST Squad with no prior experience, you will be expected to complete your Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification before responding to calls. This 120 hour, nationally accredited program is taught regionally every fall and spring. In addition to your EMT training, you will be expected to attend our monthly training night.

  • FAST Squad Training – Held on the 1st Monday of every month from 19:00-21:00.
